My workplace is called shortcutz and it is barbershop. Shortcutz is a medium sized business. My workplace is located in hayward on A st. My workplace has about 6 people working in the barbershop.My workplace employs barbers and only barbers. All the barbers have a certificate saying they passed barber school and they needed that to be able to work in the barbershop. My workplace serves all kinds of people and mostly people who need a haircut. Some strengths my workplace have is that every barber have a decent amount of customers and the weakness about it is that most of the customers only come on saturdays.

My mentors name is Trevoi Fortson and he is barber/owner. When he is not working at the barbershop he is also a comedian and some times does stand up comedy in other states. On a typical day during the week at the barbershop my mentor doesn't deal with a lot of clients during the week because most of his clients are grown and are at work or they wait till the weekend to get their haircut. Based on how long I have been working their I notice that on a tuesday my mentor only cuts about 6 people heads. Since I go to my internship on the weekends to get a haircut I notice that my mentor gives a lot more people haircuts on the weekends than during the week. Normally on the weekends my mentor probably cuts twice as much as he does during the week. My mentor was interested in owning a barbershop because he liked to give people haircuts and interact with his clients and his co-workers on a daily basis. In other for him to become barber he needed to completed barber school  before he could open his shop and start cutting people's hair.

My main responsibility at my internship is to pretty much just help my mentor with any task he needs done beside cutting hair. Some tasks he has me do are updating a table that has all the barbers name on it and I have to put it in the order for what day that barber has to pay the rent. Another task my mentors gives me is putting sodas in the vending machine. He gives me a bunch of sodas and shows me where each different kind of soda goes inside the vending machine and then I fill up the vending machine. On a regular day at my internship I start the day off by calling my advisor and telling her that im at my internship and hand over the phone to mentor to confirm that I am at my internship. After that I wait to see if my mentor has any work for me, if he does I will do it and then when he doesn't have any work for me I go sit down where the clients wait to get their haircut and do my homework if I have any. On some days i just interact with the other barbers when my mentor doesn't have any work for me to do. Towards the end of my day I have my mentor sign my timesheet and then I wait for my mom to come pick me up from the shop.

Blog #4 Nov.5

For my WLE project I have been thinking about making fliers to get more customers come into the barbershop. I plan on making a flier then make copies and then put the fliers all around hayward. I came up with this idea because I notice that on a normal day at the barbershop there arent alot of customers coming in during the week. The more customers the more money my mentors and his co-workers can make on a average day working at the barbershop. Im happy to do this project because I never made a flier before and I think it would be really helpful if was able to spread the word about how good the barbers are here at shortcutz. To accomplished this task, first Im going to need to write out how I want the flier to look and then for the rest of the weeks are left work on the fliers on photoshop and then make copies to put all over hayward.

Blog #5 Nov.12

Today at my internship I help build a mini store in the barbershop. My mentor told me that I could use this for my WLE project and I thought this was a good idea because this could be a big help if there is a mini store to bring more money in for the barbershop. All I need to do for my project is put the products in the mini store and start selling them.

The leadership skill i am using the most is completing projects effectively because when my mentor assigns me a task i will finish it effectively and on time. i also think i am using communicate powerfully because i was always was in contact with my mentor to talk about my WLE project. i can improve in using these skills more often than sometimes using them. These help me do my work because if i didnt than the tasks i was assign would take longer than what they need to and not communicating with my mentor will cause confusing about how to set my WLE project.

Something i learn about my self is that i notice that being a barber is a good carrer and a good way to make money. From my WLE i learn about what it takes to become a barber and what it is like on a daily basis for barber.

In order to get hired at my WLE I had ask local business if their workplace was offering internships. Ask people you know if their workplace offers internships. The most effective way for looking for a job is trying to find something you might be interested in and to get hired is always be professional when trying to get the job. A good way to get hired is a good resume and being professonal when you have a interview with the employer. Being a professonal barber means you can always own your own barbershop and cut hair anywhere. If you know how to cut hair you dont have to work in a barbershop to make money.

Today i did nothing because my mentor did not have tasks he needed help with. I have improved by learning what goes on in a workplace. I learned about what is needed get a job in this work field. I also learned about what is needed to get a certain job like being a barber.

My final thoughts for my WLE are that i am glad that this is over because my WLE was boring and wish i found something that was more productive and somthing i was interested in. From my experience at my WLE I need to search for a WLE in which i would be interested in and some place i might want to work. Since my WLE was boring i might start looking in the summer early so i wont have to get stuck with an internship that is boring at the last minute. The last thing i will search for is a WLE that will be more challenging then the one i had this year so for my presentation i will have more to talk about.
